I heard within me, these words. "You have not had the abundant life I have wanted you to have." I knew the Lord was speaking to me. Why?, because John 10:10 says, " …….I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly." What the Lord was saying to me was, I was suffering in my flesh because I did not have His life working in me spiritually. Abundant life has to begin in the spirit realm first. When you are fulfilled in your spirit and soul realm you are at peace physically. It was then that I said to the Lord, "yes, I know, and I am going to find a place where I can worship you in the spirit like I am suppose to and I am going to follow you all the days of my life." That was twenty-one years ago. I am still following Him today.
He will also speak to us through the prophetic gift. The word you hear when it is a true prophetic word will confirm and answer what you have been waiting to hear or something you already know in your heart. In the early days of my training I was in a home Bible Study, and after the sharing of the word, the lady whose home we were in, began to move in the prophetic gift. She put her hands on both sides of my face and she said to me, "you are a true intercessor." At the time I didn't know what an intercessor. That knowledge came later.
In 1982 my husband had a bike accident and had to have brain surgery When he returned home from the hospital and was recovering from the surgery, feelings of weeping began to move upon me while watching the TV one evening.. I didn't have any idea at the time what it was. But I would go to my bedroom and I just yielded to the desire to weep. I later learned I was in prayer for my husband. That is when I learned that the Lord was beginning to use me to pray for others. Weeping is one of the first signs that the Lord wants to use to get us to pray for others through the gift of intercession. Intercession is prayer for another.
There are times that the Lord wants you to know what His desire is for you and will prophesy that word to you through His Prophet. You may be hearing it for the first time. That is acceptable too. Store it away in your heart and wait for the confirmation to come. We can ask the Lord to confirm His word by two or three witnesses. And look for the confirmation from a source that has no previous knowledge. (2 Cor 13:1) It will come when it is a true prophetic word. The gift of prophesying to the people is one of the gifts that the evangelists moves in also. Lay members of the church many times are able to give a word of knowledge, word of wisdom, and the discerning of spirits. They are not prophets but move in one or two of the spiritual gifts that are given to the Church for the edifying of the Church.
You would be doing yourself a great service if you would study books written by some of our well known prophets of today, so that you will learn to recognize the true prophets from the false. There are false prophets out there. One way to tell if they are true or false, is to be aware of their life style. Are they a credit to the Lord or the devil. If their life would be an embarrassment to our Lord and Savor and there is no repentance, then don't receive their word in your heart. Accept those that you know and are recommended by those you know and trust. That is why it is important that you have a home church that you attend regularly.
Be wary of those who come to you and prophecy and ask for money. Now, if you go to a Prophet to receive a Word from him, give him a gift. Read 1 Samuel 9:3-10. It is the story of Saul going to look for his father's donkeys and he will go to a prophet (or seer, as they were also called) to ask the prophet concerning his father's donkeys. He takes the prophet a gift of 1/4th of a shekel. There are many of Gods prophets in the land today and if you hear of one, and go to him and expect him to give you a word, and he does, then bless the man or woman who gives it to you. God will reward you for doing so.
I pray that this has helped some of you in knowing how to receive a prophetic word and also to remember to bless the one who gives you the word in order to help them finance the ministry the Lord has given them. Many of the Lords Prophets today give out what God has given them to say to an individual and the person accepts the word, but does not think to bless the one who gives the word. So many times the Lord has moved upon me to give a word to a total stranger and I obey the Lord, but many do not think to be a blessing themselves. In my early training the Lord told me to write the prophecies down that He gave me so that I could give them out and distribute them.
So please honor the giver of the Word you receive. He or she is God's
messenger.
